A Night of Inspiration at the Brazilian Embassy
The third recital of the Ciclo de Recitales en las Embajadas, or the Cycle of Recitals in the Embassies, was a resounding success in the Brazilian Embassy on Monday, October 7th, 2013.
The beautiful venue of the Brazilian Embassy was an excellent choice for this evening, which presented the impressive winners of Alejandro Cordero’s competition.
Natalia Quiroga (soprano), Veronica Cano (mezzo – soprano), Gaston Oliveira Weckesser (tenor), Alexander Spies (baritone) and Juan Pablo Labourdette (bass) were selected from a group of 25 contestants. In this performance, they were accompanied on the piano by Marcelo Ayub, who also took on musical direction. The recital presented a range of talent in the voices and executed a wide repertoire. Plus, all singers went on to participate in November in two concerts in New York City, at the Americas Society and at the Manhattan School of Music.
The breathtaking halls of the Pereda Palace were filled with an enthusiastic audience. After a brief introduction by Everton Vieira Vargas, the ambassador of Brazil, and Rodolfo Ceretti, the president of the Colón Theater Foundation, the crowd enjoyed an enchanting recital, where singers performed haunting arias from the opera repertoire, some playful tangos, and ending the night in a piece from Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II.
Among those in the audience were Ambassador of Germany, Mr. Bernhard Graf von Waldersee, Lily Benedetti, Jorge Di Lello, Mirtha Legrand, Liliana Roux, and Jorge and Ana Dominguez. Plus, Ernesto de Bary Pereda y Juana Pereda de Ocampo Leloir, descendants of the builder, Celedonio Pereda, were in attendance.
All proceeds went to benefit the scholarship fund and the works of the Teatro Colón Foundation.
